About this deal

As the vocals start, you are now fully enveloped into this science fiction story of a fantastical indigenous futurism concept. Virtuoso and engaging Canadian duo – guitarist/bassist/keys player Kevin Comeau and singer/drummer Cody Bowles - fuse pomp, pop and rock on brilliant 2nd LP. This is not a Geddy Lee vocal, no sir, it's one that could compare with the greatest of the greats: Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Klaus Meine (The Scorpions), and, of course, Ozzie. Though this song may not have multiple time signatures, crazy guitar solos, or massive drum fills, it stands out as a superlative palate cleanser. It infuses that traditional heavy metal style with that sort of power metal lyrics and vocal style too.

So much so, that it’s an album winging its way to me as I type, one that I cannot wait to add to my CD collection. Crown Lands came into my consciousness by way of a recommendation, and since the first listen, a love affair has begun. The riffs within the catchy chorus have a proper edge to them, accenting the quieter, brooding verses where keys create the bulk of the musical backdrop.I" (7:49) I like the chance for Kevin to to showcase his bass and guitar skills on this one, otherwise, I'm not sure how this song serves to "set up" the context of who Fearless is and what s/he stands for. Well as a Rush , Zeppelin fan it would be hard not to start thinking this should be good - and like I say it wears it's influences front and centre.

band, Badlands with those high Zach Slaughter (Skullfist in case you need reminding) eighties metal vocals. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. With all the garbage out there it's refreshing to hear some great music again, said the 73 year old rocker. Such is their skill, however, that Bowles and Comeau manage to beguile me in an equally strong way, and I’m drawn utterly into the slower, more introspective soundscape that they create, especially as the intensity builds throughout to deliver a rousing, spinetingling finale to the album. The Shadow" (3:44) a song that effortlessly conjures up ancient masters of the classic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal genre including KISS, TRIUMPH, DEF LEPPARD, and, of course, THE SCORPIONS' "Rock You Like a Hurricane.

The musicianship throughout from the talented duo is spectacular, matched by a production that offers the instruments plenty of space to shine.Add in other references from Wolfmother to Led Zeppelin, and many more in between, and I’d be betting my paltry wages on the fact that I’d probably have a listen to one song and then give up.

That said, the biggest strength to the song is the multitude of wonderful melodies that pull me in, sometimes lurking around a hidden corner, or bold as brass, culminating in a stunning, aching lead just prior to the 15-minute mark, which then acts as the gateway to arguably my favourite passage of the song, the quiet introspective pause, followed by something much more upbeat, urgent, and addictive.

Either way, there are echoes of the first song within ‘Pt I’, most notably, the sensationally addictive chorus that builds upon a line uttered in the opener: ‘If life is a wheel, please let it spin’. It’s at this point where I can no longer contain my adoration for this record, air guitaring for all I’m worth, flailing my arms in some kind of air drumming seizure, and raising my head to the sky to sing the chorus. As a sophomore follow up to their self-titled debut album, it truly shows that the evolution of the band is undeniable and limitless. On their 2020 self-titled debut album, Crown Lands resembled a raw blues-rock power duo harboring latent prog- rock affinities, vacillating between dirty boogie grinds and pastoral reveries.
